Sketch History - The Christmas Edition

Well London has certainly treated us to a dazzling display this year and it seems that Tinker Bell is waving her wand all over the place - The Strand, Selfridges and even Kenwood House.

Having said that many venues are working alongside a charity this year, and whilst offering a photogenic display, they are asking for donations for the Royal Marsden Cancer Trust or Great Ormand Street Hospital. Take Kings Cross St Pancras's tree (below) this glistening tree holds messages from patients at GOSH who have written down their aspiration for the year ahead. The tree plays music and takes donations from passers-by.

One tree I had to mention on my recent Sketch History Session was the Connaught tree - the 19th century hotel invites an artist to design their outside tree and it always excites me due it's modern approach to decoration. This year's tree is by Urs Fischer; a Switzerland born artist who often works with AI when it comes to his craft and that's what he delivered for this years tree - gigantic bulbuls which hosted smiley and joyful faces. Whose faces you ask, ahh no one you know, no one anyone knows as they are all AI generated. The reaction to this tree has been mixed, with some really enjoying the tech approach and others being fully perplexed.

For our sketch we looked at a delightful plate of delicious Christmas inspired cakes, which could be enjoyed if you decide to have Afternoon Tea in the Ritz Hotel during this festive season. We hadn't looked at food during previous Sketch History Sessions and I think this was a rather fun one to try and copy.

Did you see any of London's Christmas lights this year? If so leave me a comment and let me know what you saw and enjoyed.
